Nice non color, aviation GPS :
When I purchased the Lowrance 1000 I did not have much expectation of it. My friend had a Lowrance AirMap 500 and I felt I was buying one with a little bigger screen but thing are not what they seem. The Lowrance 1000 screen was not only bigger but the 1000 really shines when you take to the skies. The variety of navigational screens is incredible and the displays are all very intelligently created. I can view myself whiling away the hours of a long cross country by switching from one page to another, combining situational awareness with in-flight entertainment! The scans can make you feel that you are flying a jet liner. In addition to this the 1000 has a inbuilt adapter, I have been running mine of 12V DC. The buttons are nice and thumb able.
The biggest draw back is the lack of color it would have been lovely to see the maps in color. The other short coming is its bulkiness; it cannot be carried in the pocket. It does not go all that long with batteries. The 1000 has obstructions and I would not use the profile view. Over all this makes the 1000 a nice non color, aviation GPS device.
