Desription .........  The Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx is a GPS handheld device that’s tough to beat – from the 128 MB of internal memory, to the superior-quality color screen that’s bright enough for any lighting condition. Boasting an highly sensitive SiRF Star receiver and an 18-hour battery life, the GPSMAP 76CSx features a Geocaching mode for tons of fun. Still, Garmin has engineered the GPSMAP 76CSx with a long list of features and capabilities making it suitable for the most important of GPS navigation tasks: the sensitive receiver is so accurate that it’s ideal for use in forests and other areas with dense foliage. Yet as impressive as the GPSMAP 76CSx is for navigating through the wilderness, it’s also meant for marine navigation, with a waterproof exterior that floats if it’s accidentally dunked. Other features include turn-by-turn routing, a digital compass, a barometric altimeter, a microSD card slot (located in the battery compartment), a color TFT screen, and serial and USB connectivity.

Good Deal on outdoor GPS device : Of all the hand held GPS devices that I have owned this was by far the best. This is a must have device for someone who wants a hand help for hiking, boating or for road navigation. The screen is small as compared to in car GPS units. The satellite locking is real fast and even when indoors it latches on to 3 – 4 satellites. I have purchased City Navigator North American v8 Maps for the road, plus downloading is easy with a USB or serial port interfaces. The Battery life using Duracell alkaline batteries while the GPS is set to "Alkaline" will last about 12 hours. The memory is expandable. I installed a 1GB microSD card in order to store vast amounts of map data. The unit does come with a 128MB microSD card. The unit has an electronic compass and barometer.

This unit has very few flaws unit software that it comes with "Waypoint Navigator” has very limited city maps allowing you to do simple trip planning so you have to buy Mapsource maps, which are quite expensive. For me, the controls at the top of the screen are a bit badly placed. Every time I have to press a button I have to stretch across the screen to reach it. Overall a very good outdoor GPS unit!
